Alexander McAuley married Mary Jane Alcorn in 1827. They left for Canada aboard The Despatch, were shipwrecked off the coast of Newfoundland. HMS Tyne rescued the survivors and brought them to Halifax. They remained in Nova Scotia and raised a family.
