There are several stories about Mary McHale Tighe. I first find Mary MacHale listed as the mother of Dorothy Tighe in Dorothy's baptismal record in 1831 in Crossmolina, Mayo records, living with her husband James Tighe in Rathmore. We have found "Widow" Tygue and 4 children (all girls) in the St. Mary's Cathedral census of 1844, living Kingston, Ontario, beside or with Edward McHale, wife, and 2 children; Michael McHale and wife, and Luke McHale and wife. Are these her brothers? Cousins? We see a Mary Tyge as a sponsor for Edward and Mary MacHales daughter, Dorothy in the baptismal records of St. Mary's Cathedral, Kingston, on Dec. 11, 1842. Mary is also the sponsor for her granddaughter Mary Healey in 1858, listed as living in Kingston. Unfortunately we cannot find Mary Tighe in the 1851, 1861, 1871 Canada West census.

According to an rootsweb post, and also according to a Sr. M. Eucharia, great granddaughter of Mary McHale Tighe: Mary McHale Tighe is a niece to the archbishop Patrick McHale. She was the widow of James Tighe and brought her four daughters with her to Ontario, as well as her brother, John McHale. Mary lived in Frontenac County in Ontario, Canada until the 1870s when she moved to Isabella County in Michigan with her daughter, Dorothy Tighe Judge. She is in the 1880 census in Isabella County. Her brother John also moved to Michigan.

Some sources say Mary McHale is the daughter of Martin McHale (1787-1831), I have not been able to find proof -- but would love to as that McHale tree seems to be well known.

    Kildavnet Freeholders List

A unique Census Substitute for the townland of Carrickkildavnet aka Kildavnet in 1829. This Freeholders List can provide useful information about those who held enough land to register to vote. While the smaller tenant farmers who suffered most during the Great Famine won't appear on this list, there may be a few surprises included here (that didn't appear on Tithe applotment records). These could be partners on a freehold lease. Can you find your ancestor's name below?
