Mary and her husband John Dalton returned to Ireland in 1904 with their first child John Francis, born May 11, 1903 in New Haven, Connecticut, USA.  They visited Newport in Kilvellane civil parish, Co. Tipperary near John's birthplace in Boarmanshill in Abington civil parish, Co. Limerick.  They departed Queenstown on White Star Line's RMS Cedric and returned to New York on 2 December 1904.

Although most of the original 1766 religious census returns were destroyed Dublin's Public Records Office fire of 1922, a few fragments survived.</p>

  • 1830s

    Roscommon Catholics' Campaign for Parliamentary Reform

    <p>With the arrival of Catholic Emancipation in 1829, Daniel O’Connell led a party of 39 Irish MPs pledged to repealing the Act of Union. During the following years it was O’Connell’s leadership of the Irish MPs which kept Lord Melbourne’s ministry in office and as a result O’Connell had much Irish patronage placed at his disposal.</p> <p>Denis O’Conor (1794-1847) who was educated as a barrister and traveled extensively in Europe, supported the pro-Catholic agitation in Roscommon. Following the granting of emancipation in 1830, he was the obvious choice of the county’s liberal Catholics for the representation. The O’Conor Don, who declared himself in favour of reform and economies, and exerted himself, especially on the subject of Tithes, retained his seat for the rest of his life.</p>
