Ann Colgan was "from" King's County (now County Offaly), and I expect she was born and baptized there (1811).  At the age of 18 or 19 she married William Byrne, a blacksmith.  Either before or after marriage, they emigrated to Quebec City, Canada.

Co. Offaly, or Uíbh Fhailí in Irish, was once known as King's County. It is in the midlands region of Ireland with the River Shannon defining its western border.  We are home to Birr Castle and Moneygall, which is the ancestral home of President Obama.  Our county town is Tullamore and we have a population of approximately 78,003.  We look forward to helping you connect with your ancestors’ place of origin.
