He was born in the US, both parents born in Ireland. Documents conflict re: date, place of birth and parents names. Year of birth ranges 1856-1859.
Mother may be Catherine (unknown maiden name) or Mary McGraw (on death certificate). Father named John on death certificate. I am skeptical of this info though it was given by his wife. 1870 US Census has him living with Catherine and, most likely brother, James. Here is stated as born in New York and James in Pennsylvania. All other document have John born in Pennsylvania as well, Philadelphia specifically. I've been unable to find connections to other Scullen in Philadelphia. Through DNA matches found many Dohertys from Fermanagh. In the baptisms in Cleenish I found Scollans, I know 90 some percent of Scullen Catholic baptisms were in Ballyscullion but with nothing to go on for first names, except for Catherine born in 1832, it's impossible to connect anyone. So now I'm trying to use the Dohertys to find a common ancestor. The nearest DNA match is probably 4-5 generations back. I'm assuming the parents immigrated in the late 1840s, early 1850s but no proof.
