John Hasler Samuels was born circa 1827 in Ireland. He was educated at Trinity College, graduating about 1848. He married Sarah Greene, youngest daughter of William Greene and granddaughter of Sir Jonas Greene, at the Parish Church in Monkstown, Dublin in December of 1850. They had five children. The oldest daughter, Sarah Jane, married George Weldon and moved to America, Lucinda Ruth remained in Dublin, William died from diphtheria at age ten, Florence Naomi married Charles Edward Robert Alexander Irvine from Enniskellene, and the youngest daughter Leila Mary married Reverend Hugh Jackson Lawlor. The family resided at Beaufort Lodge, Glasthule, Kingstown, Dublin.

He joined his father, also named John Samuels, as Deputy Registrar of the United Dioceses of Dublin, Glendalough and Kildare. Upon the death of his father in 1867, John Hasler Samuels was named sole Registrar. He continued in that role up until days before his death in February of 1900.

John Samuels, John Hasler's father, was born circa 1789. As mentioned above, he was Deputy Registrar as early as 1825. He married Lucinda Hasler in January of 1823 in St. George Parish, Dublin. They had at least nine children, three sons and six daughters. They resided at Seafield house in Newtownsmith, Kingstown, Dublin.

If anyone has further information on the Samuels, Greene or Hasler families the information would be greatly appreciated.
