John Grady (1821-1906) & Catherine O’Brien married in March 1856 in Bodyke RC chapel. Catherine came from Gurtnalassa. [Witnessed by Thomas Larkin & Mary O'Brien, Glenmora].

They were farming in the townland of Dromod (par. 8. Michael Grady b. 9 FEB 1876 (ships record suggests this DOB is correct, Census 1901 suggests b. 1881?) emigrated to NYC on 15 May 1903.

In 1901, recorded as GRADY aka GREADY in the Census of Ireland: John GRADY (c1833) farmer & wife Catherine (c1835) with sons Patrick age 24 (c1877) & 🎉Michael age 21 (c1880). This family was living in a 3-room thatch house with 3 windows to the front (grade: 2nd class house). All the houses in this townland were thatch. They had a stable, a cow house, a calf house and a piggery as well.

On 15 May 1903, their son Michael (age 23) emigrated to the US to join his sister "Maggie" address 2096, 8th Avenue, New York. His older brother, Patrick, remained to take over the family farm. They spoke both Irish & English

On 6 FEB 1906, John Grady died age 85 with his daughter Brigid Grady present at death. Cause of death Cancer 12 months.

In the Irish Census of 1911, Catherine O’GRADY widow (many reclaimed the O’ at this stage) was the head of family at home in “Drummod” in the company of son Patrick, his new wife Annie, and their newborn Katie (named for Granny). The house still had 3 windows to the front but a total of 4 rooms were occupied by the family in 1911. The farmyard calf house had been replaced by a coach house.

This family (including parents John & Kate) were interred at Kilnoe Church Graveyard: see headstone of Patrick O'Grady (1873-1955) of Drummod died Oct. 2nd 1950 and wife Annie died Jan. 21st 1955.

Patrick & Annie's sons:

  1. John O'Grady, died March 24th 1967 in New York, USA
  2. Patrick O'Grady, died July 15th 1967 in Bermingham, England
  3. Peter O'Grady died March 3rd 1974
  4. James O'Grady died June 19th 1997. R.I.P.

Looking to reconnect Michael's descendants in US with any surviving kin in the area.
