Searching for my GG grandfather John Carney born 1838 to Patrick Carney and Marium Murray, I believe they lived in Ballagadarreen. John married Anna Rock born 1841 and daughter of Bernard Rock. They married in 1867. They had the following children: John, James, Thomas, Bridget, Winnifred, Patrick, Michael and Patricia. Other areas that are listed include Kilcolagh, Kilmacumsy and Runnaboll.

Anything on this family would be helpful. Areas of immigration include, Boston, New York and Chicago.

Boyle Poor Law Union formally declared

The Irish Poor Law Act of 1838 divided Ireland into poor law unions (in which paupers would receive poor relief). A union was named after the town on which it was centred (where its workhouse was located) and the "union" boundaries were unrelated to those of the civil parishes ( and crossed county boundaries in many cases). Prior to this date, poor relief was administered by parish and these records were kept in the Church of Ireland Vestry Books (held locally).

    Griffith's Valuation of Boyle Union

The primary valuation of Ireland or Griffith's Valuation is a useful Census substitute for 19th-century Ireland. To confirm whether an ancestor could possibly be the individual listed, it is helpful to know the survey completion date for a parish (or the part of it that fell within the Poor Law Union surveyed).
