Frank Harris was born in County Galway on the 14th of February 1855.
As a young man, Harris was noted for his intelligence, receiving a scholarship to attend Cambridge. However, he took the small sum of prize money and left for the United States instead. After working a number of odd jobs, he attended the University of Kansas where he studied Law.
In 1878 he married Florence Ruth Adams, but she died a year later.
Not content with his career in law, Harris returned to Europe where he travelled extensively before settling in London. He began a career as a journalist. He worked as an editor with a number of publications, and also benag to work as a novelist.
When the First World War broke out, Harris returned to the United States. There he worked as a magazine editor. His work was socialist in nature and was sometimes poorly received by American officials.
In April 1921, Harris became an American citizen. He published his autobiography which was noted at the time for being highly sexualised. His work was also criticised for being overly inventive, especially as it was published as a work of non-fiction.
Harris died on the 26th of August 1931.
