Elizabeth Grogan

Born: 1807-01-01 12:00:00
Died: 1887-12-22 12:00:00
Gender: Female
Place of migration: Migrated to/Born in USA

Elizabeth Grogan married Simon Riley 10 October 1822. They had nine children: Bernard, Catherine, Edward, Andrew, Anne, Elizabeth, James, Bridget, and Delia. Only Elizabeth, James, and Bridget immigrated with the family arriving in Boston, USA 21 May 1857. Delia was born in USA. The family lived in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Ships records state that she was 40 years old. This is probably incorrect as she was married in 1822 and her Bernard was born in 1825.

These and other rituals (such as creating a May altar) still survive, particularly in the west of Ireland. Our 19th-century ancestral piseóga (superstitions) were recorded diligently by Irish schoolchildren in the 1930s ...</p>
