Eliza was a famine orphan from the Birr workhouse and was transported to Sydney NSW in 1850 on the Tipoo Saib. She married John Howarth in Sydney in 1851. They had 7 children. They are my great great grandparents.
Co. Offaly, or Uíbh Fhailí in Irish, was once known as King's County. It is in the midlands region of Ireland with the River Shannon defining its western border. We are home to Birr Castle and Moneygall, which is the ancestral home of President Obama. Our county town is Tullamore and we have a population of approximately 78,003. We look forward to helping you connect with your ancestors’ place of origin.
