Hello--Eliza Falkner/Faulkner was my great-great grandmother. There is a birth date of 1823 on her death cert but I can't be sure. I can't find her baptism on the NLI site. She was from the townland of Enniscoffey'Caran in the civil parish of Enniscoffey. Catholic parish of Rochfortbridge but they attended church, I believe, in Milltownpass. She immigrated to New York City in 1846. Eliza's father was John. Mother's name uncertain. I have just recently found several other sisters in NYC, confirmed through DNA of living descendants.

Eliza's father was John Falkner. The family is in the Tithe Applotments and Griffith's Valuation. John's presumed son John married Mary O'Hara and they had 14 children. John and Mary stayed in Enniscoffey. Descendants still there, I believe.

Eliza married in NYC and had eight children.

I am seeking more info on my family so would be grateful for any info on the Faulkners of Enniscoffey. Spellings of Falkner vary!

    Christmas Pastimes

Even in 1833, the narrative around Christmas was to look back with nostalgia upon how previous generations understood and better celebrated this (recently commercialised with modern playthings) holiday.

As published in the Dublin Observer on Saturday 21 December 1833...
