My great-grandfather is Anthony Philip Coyne. By his death certificate, his parents are listed as John Coyne and Nora O'Keefe but this is a mystery because my grandmother was not present at his death. We believe that he died without family to inform the birth certificate. With more recent DNA work, his parents may have been Patrick and Nora Coyne. His brothers Michael, Patrick, and Martin Coyne and his sister Sally. This is just the best possible theory for now based on the people my uncle shares DNA with on Ancestry. I will be researching more in person in Galway and Dublin in October of this year. He was born in 1855 or 1858 and emigrated from Ireland about 1880-1882 and settled in Chicago, Illinois. He worked as a laborer. He married my great-grandmother Bridget McHugh from Mayo in 1883 at Holy Family in Chicago. He spoke Irish as his first language and did not read or write English according to the 1930 Chicago Census. He had two surviving children. One is my grandmother Catherine Coyne Murphy. My great-grandfather raised my father and his siblings from 1927 until his death in 1941. We know that my great-grandfather was in contact with his nephew Philip Henry Coyne, possibly the son of his brother Patrick Coyne and his wife Margaret Coyne (born 1870). My dad also spoke of another cousin, John Bernard Coyne who was a Jesuit priest and talk at St. Mary of the Lake seminary outside of Chicago. His nephew Philip Henry Coyne settled in Hull, MA and owned Coyne's Tavern in Boston. There may be other descendents of Michael Coyne in Boston. I am trying to find out about my great-grandfather's early life in Derrylough/Derryinver/Cloonluane area but there are no records. With the name of Nora O'Keeffe on his death certificate, it is such a mystery. When I visited Derrylough last year, the local people have no memory of an O'Keeffe family. I cannot find records of her at all. I may look at other parish records nearby since it may have been tradition that she recorded her children's births in her hometown parish.
