Andrew was born in Donegal, Raphoe 1831. Strongly believe his parents were Hugh Coyle b. 1803 and Margaret Burns (b. uknown). Andrew left from Rathmullan to St. John, New Brunswick, Canada from Derry on the Ship "Londonderry" 1847 at the age of 16; settled in St. John and raised a family. When Andrew departed Rathmullan, (potential) mother Margaret was deceased and (potential) father Hugh was to enter the workhouse in Milford in 1848...at which time father Hugh indicated he had 4 children.

On a subsequent ship in 1847 were orphans James(12), Miles (10)  and Margery (7) Coyle. All 3 were admitted to the St. John orphanage. Miles (10) died in the orphanage in St. John upon arrival. The two remaining children were discharged to the care of "T & P McCallen" who indicated the children were to be sent onward to the US (perhaps Boston). I believe Margery may have settled in Philadelphia. I can't confirm outcome for James. Finally (and further complicating this), one other Coyle orphan named Hugh made the same transAtlantic passage that same year, from Donegal to St. John, New Brunswick, Canada.....Hugh Coyle (14).

I am trying to confirm: That Hugh and Margaret were indeed Andrew's parents. That James, Miles, Margery were his siblings, and perhaps Hugh Jr. as well (note that by 1848 Hugh sr. may have been advised that his son Miles had died already, thus his statement that he had 4 children rather than 5.). This is a mystery that I've spent a lot of time trying to unravel and any "leads" in the cold case would be most appreciated. Kind regards, Anne Coyle Melanson
