Alexander McGRORY was born in Letterboy, Fermanagh in 1818.

His older brother Thomas immigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1838 aboard the PARLAND. Alexander subsequently followed some time between 1838 and 1848 although no record of his travel has been located.

On the 6th March 1848 Alexander married Susanah Bridget MURRAY at St Francis Church, Dapto, New South Wales. Peter Young, a Roman Catholic minister, married them.

Susanah was born in Cavan on the 2nd April 1831 and arrived in Australia aboard the JOSEPH CUNARD on 28th November 1841 with her parents James and Bridget MURRAY.

Alexander and Susanah went on to have 13 children. From Sands Directories and the 1891 Census the family are known to have lived on Glebe Road, Glebe, NSW, and at 43 Greek Street, Glebe.

Alexander died from senile decay on the 13th May 1898, and was buried in the Rookwood Catholic Cemetery on the 15th May.

Susanah and 11 children survived him.
